Here's one of my little guys with our cat, Mickey, under the deck bench. He was trying to pet Mickey. Mickey has allergies and we forgot to get his injection, so his nose is all spotty. Poor guy. So negligent are we.
Now, maybe you can tell me if this is a carpenter bee. We have had them drilling holes in our pergola, but my sister, who identified them, hasn't told me what they look like. She saw a special on carpenter bees.

Hmmm. You think you know what bees are until someone asks you something. I'm sorry I don't know if it is or not. I know honeybees and bumblebees and little bumble bees, maybe mason bees but this is a new one.

Your garden is so inviting and dreamy! And that bee thing looks like those bugs that make holes in trees here in NY. Could it be this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_long-horned_beetle ?
Dora, I checked out the "carpenter bee" and found that this is what is in my yard. They have drilled perfect holes in my pergola, and my husband has filled them with wood putty. They keep breaking through. I'm sure we'll arrest them in time. They're pretty harmless to humans; however, I wish I could say the same for the wood!
